Chapter Nine

The morning light streams in through slits in the dark velvet curtains, waking me from one of the most pleasant dreams I've had in a while. I let out a bear-like groan and throw one of the dense hotel pillows over my face, hoping that would stop some of the assault on my senses. My head is pounding, my mouth feels like I've eaten sand for breakfast, and I reek of sex.

It's the last thought that sends me shooting straight up in bed. I let out a little shriek as the sheet falls from my torso, causing my nipples to pebble when exposed to the chilly air. Pulling the sheet over my chest, I look around the room in confusion.

Jace is nowhere to be found.

Like the poster child I am for overthinking things, I immediately start running through all the worst-case scenarios in my little pea brain. Maybe he didn’t enjoy last night as much as I did? Maybe he thought it was a mistake? Oh God, what if he hates me now?

My mini freak-out only lasts for a few more moments before the door swings open to reveal the missing man in question. My eyes light when I see what he’s holding in his hands.

“Oh, you beautiful, beautiful man,” I praise, my mouth watering at the scent of freshly brewed coffee. I pause, my gaze shooting to the side. “I got a little worried when you weren’t in bed this morning. I thought—”

“That I left?” His eyes twinkle with amusement. “How could I, when I have a goddess in my bed? A goddess who let me fuck her last night.” My cheeks flame, and he shakes with a chuckle as he makes his way over to the bed, sitting at the foot before offering me my morning crack.

“I wasn’t sure if you still get the same order, but... that’s what I got you.” He smiles sheepishly before taking a sip of his own.

“Honestly, you could have handed me a cup of black sludge, and I would drink it with a smile.”

“I love it when the bar is set low for me.” He takes a sip and winces. “Ugh. Foul.”

“I love it.” I grin, taking a large sip of my own. “I guess everything's just better when you're around.”

“Cassandra Stone.” His eyes twinkle. “Is that a compliment I hear?”

I let out a squeal as he lunges for me, piping coffee sloshing over the sheets with the movement. His mouth descends on my neck, nipping and sucking the delicate skin as his hand paws my breast.

“Jace,” I moan, my head falling back as a wave of heat shoots to my core. “Jace, I have work today.”

If he hears me, he makes no inclination. A trail of fire follows his lips across my collarbone and down my abdomen, adding kindling to the raging fire in my veins.

“Fuck me,” I hiss, my knees spreading subconsciously to allow him further access.

“That's exactly what I'm trying to do.” A chuckle rumbles in his chest as he places a kiss just above my clit.
